Northern Scale Model Show (South Shields). 8th March 2009.
South Shields is one of my favourite model shows. It is normally held in June but this year it was early March. Our club was represented by Tony W, Tony B, Ron, Adrian and myself.
Our pitch was 4 tables in linear fashion which gave a better chance of talking to the public. I travelled with Tony W and Ron. The car full to the brim with kits, quite a few mine made and unmade, so I sat in the back nestled amongst the boxes and bags, ............. serves me right.
Adrian and Tony B made there own way there from home but weall arrived about 9.00am ready to set up after encountering a weather forecasters dream scenario, of every type of weather, rain, sun, snow, wind, hail and so on.
Once we had battered through the gale into the hall, with no unexpected take offs, Adrian and Ron quickly got to work on the table coverings whilst we collected more kits, bags, coats etc from the cars. The table was covered in record time, and looked great. We then laid our wares out to see and got interest even as we were setting up. After 15 mins all was done and we could relax with a cup of tea.
The other clubs and members were there usual cheerful and friendly selves, and quite a few old aquaintences were renewed. The hall was warm, well lit and the aisles generous, no need to breathe in at this show or wince as somebody goes by.One downside was the number of traders who werea little thin on number but still some fantastic bargains to be found
Adrian, Tony B and Ron slipped off to seek out bargins early, Ron's shopping list being especially long!........ Did Anne know???
Much interest was shown in the display and all the models were photographed at one time or another, by interested members of the public. I managed to sell about half the kits I had brought as well as a made Lightning which I know went to a very good home. Tony Beesting, Ron and I entered the competition and there was some really lovely stuff there, against us, Competition entry was 50p per model, quite cheap really.
The day went well the visitors quite numerous until mid afternoon when things slowed and we were waitnig for the judging to be completed and winners announced. Well the time came and Bridlington and Wolds can be proud of themselves again 2 Golds, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze out of five kits entered.
Ron ........................GOLD 1/72 aircraft
Tony B.....................GOLD 1/48 aircraft
Kevin.......................SILVER and BRONZE 1/144 aircraft.
At 4.30pm we packed up and loaded the cars, feeling pleased with the day and our efforts. Somehow the car on the way back was even fuller, I had got rid a few boxes, several kits yet still full, perhaps it was all of Ron's shopping!!!
If you didn't go, then you missed a good day. I for one will be going next year, the company of colleagues together with a warm and friendly hospitable venue makes this day one on the calendar not to miss. I'm looking forward to Darlington(Sword and Lance) on 4th April 2009, it too is friendly, I hope to see you there!
A selection of Photo's of the club display, oh and the Three Wise Monkey's!
